People interested in becoming a volunteer firefighter with the Municipality of Highlands East Fire Department must complete an application form.

Who can apply

We are accepting applications for people working or living in the Municipality of Highlands East.  Applicants must possess the following minimum qualifications:

  • All applicants must be 18 years or older at time of application.
  • All applicants must have a valid G Ontario driver's licence at time of application.
  • All applicants must live or work in an area served by our fire stations.
  • We may ask for additional qualifications within the application form.

How to submit your application form

  • E-mail your completed application form to Acting Fire Chief Chris Baughman.
  • Drop it off at Station 4 in Wilberforce at 2259 Loop Road in Wilberforce.
  • Mail it to the Municipality of Highlands East, P.O. Box 295, Wilberforce, Ontario,
    K0L 3C0.

Once submitted, your application will be reviewed and you will be contacted about next steps.

Firefighter duties and expectations

As a firefighter with the Municipality of Highlands East Fire Department, you will be participating in several areas of fire department operations:

  • fire suppression
  • extrication at motor vehicle accidents
  • first aid (including CPR and Automated External Defibrillation)
  • fire prevention
  • public education and awareness
  • fire truck and equipment cleaning and maintenance
  • fire hall and truck bay cleaning and maintenance
  • regular and specialized training
  • regular meeting nights
