Information Centre Labourer Position Available

The Municipality of Highlands East is currently seeking a part-time, Information Centre Labourer.

This is a part-time, seasonal position. The successful candidate will work with the Community Economic Development & Committee Coordinator.  This position will be responsible for providing assistance to the Community Economic Development & Committee Coordinator with the operations of the Highlands East Information Centre.  

Job Details

This position is for up to 30 hours per week, varied days of the week including weekends, and has a $26.84 per hour rate of pay. The Information Centre Labourer will be expected to work inside and outside. Position to commence as soon as possible for a 16-week period.

Preference will be given to candidates who have:

  • Knowledge of Highlands East activities (Mineral Collecting, Trails, Geo-Caching, local events)
  • Knowledge of the Highlands East Information Centre Operations
  • Awareness of current goals and objectives of the Municipality
  • A valid Class G or G2 driver’s license

Job Description

Labourer will assist visitors in our Information Centre, located in Wilberforce. You will provide information about the Municipality which includes travel directions, information about accommodations, restaurants, points of interest and things to do in the area.
You must be very familiar with the Municipality of Highlands East (including local businesses and points of interest), possess excellent interpersonal, communication and social skills. Excellent customer service skills, ability to problem solve and attention to detail is a must. You must be knowledgeable or willing to learn about geocaching, mineral collection, trails, and special events in the Municipality.

The successful candidate must possess excellent computer and professional telephone skills, and the ability to work independently and unaccompanied while on certain shifts. Some physical labour is required. Must have a valid “G2” driver’s license and access to a reliable vehicle.

Duties include:

  • Answer inquiries by telephone, email, or walk in visitors
  • Tracking inquiries
  • Stocking all brochures, racks, and organizing brochures
  • Updating events and other details
  • Mailing out packages
  • Photocopying
  • Database work
  • Light garbage clean up duties
  • Update Exploration Centres
  • Attend events and trade shows as required
  • Other duties as assigned
