Municipal Offices

Our main municipal office is located at 2249 Loop Road, Wilberforce. Gooderham is home to our Building Department office at 1032 Gooderham Street.

Arena

The Keith Tallman Memorial Arena in Wilberforce offers skating and hockey and is available to rent for private parties. Wilberforce also boasts a Curling Club.

Community Centres

Our four community centres are also available to rent for a variety of occasions and offer free Wi-Fi.

Highlands East has five fire halls throughout the municipality:

Highlands East is home to two schools: Wilberforce Elementary School and Cardiff Elementary School.

Affordable Housing

Maple View is a non-profit housing complex in Wilberforce that has 24 apartments and 10 town houses, with rent-geared-to-income units and market rent units. Places for People operates a property in Cardiff.

Landfills and Recycling

Landfill and waste disposal sites are for the use of full time and seasonal residents. Visitors can obtain access with a cottage kit.

Visitor Information

The Visitor Information Centre is open from the May Victoria Day weekend to Thanksgiving weekend.

EV Charging Station

An Ivy Park & Charge electric vehicle charging station from the Ivy Charging Network is located at the Keith Tallman Memorial Arena, 2256 Loop Road in Wilberforce.

It is one of five level 2 charging stations across Haliburton County.

Wilberforce has a grocery store, general store and LCBO outlet. Cardiff has a general store/LCBO outlet/restaurant. Gooderham also has a general store and LCBO outlet.

Outdoor Play

We offer lots of opportunities to play outside at public beaches, the Cardiff pool and parks and playgrounds. Our facilities map shows the locations of tennis courts, baseball diamonds, basketball courts, horse shoe pits and outdoor Ice rinks.

Explore our lakes with 30 water access points for fishing, boating, and paddling.

Whether you're heading out as a family, or looking for a solo activity, you can enjoy geocaching, mineral collecting, or explore our scenic trails.

More Activities

We have two museums: Kidd School House Museum in Highland Grove and the Wilberforce Red Cross Outpost Historic House Museum. Take a self-guided tour through our ghost towns and visit our art installations.

Points of Interest

Algonquin Provincial Park

There are two local access points to the southern portion of Algonquin Provincial Park:

1. High Falls Hike offers a moderate hike to the base of the falls. Follow Elephant Lake Road to Peterson Road and look for signs to Algonquin Provincial Park's High Falls parking lot.
2. Kingscote Lake Access Point is located off Elephant Lake Road, just east of the community of Harcourt.

Highlands Cinema

Highlands Cinema in Kinmount a 550-seat complex with five theatres showing first-run movies and has a movie museum of film.

Bancroft Mineral Museum

If you’re interested in the rocks and minerals, visit the Bancroft Mineral Museum with over 400 mineral specimens from Bancroft and the surrounding area. Special features include a mining diorama, a fluorescent display, rotating guest exhibits of minerals and gemstones, and a showcase of rough and cut objects.

Take in Canada’s largest rock and mineral show, the Rockhound Gemboree the August civic holiday weekend.

Rails End Gallery and Art Centre

Located in Haliburton's landmark rail station, Rails End Gallery and Art Centre presents contemporary Canadian art, craft and music by local and regional Artists.

Haliburton Forest Wolf Centre

Haliburton Forest Wolf Centre is a 58 km drive from Wilberforce, educating the public about wolf behaviour and wolf ecology. The Wolf Centre is a 5,000 square foot facility that houses exhibits, a cinema and a large indoor observatory.
