Celebrate Earth Day and Clean Up Highlands East

Saturday, April 27th is Earth Day and from 10:00AM to 2:00PM the Gooderham Community Action Group will be hosting an Earth Day Celebration and Town Clean Up in Gooderham. Collect garbage from 10 to Noon, then come to the Robert McCausland Community Centre where hot chocolate and hot dogs will be served. Bring your children where they can check out fur traps and fur displays, save the turtles information, fossil displays, recycling and compost information and other items related to Earth Day.

Residents throughout Highlands East are encouraged to collect garbage in their communities. Garbage bags and gloves can be picked up at the Wilberforce, Cardiff and Gooderham municipal offices. Garbage can be dropped off before 1:30PM on Saturday at the following locations:

  • Behind the Wilberforce Fire Hall
  • Beside the Cardiff Fire Hall
  • Behind the Highland Grove Community Centre
  • Under the pavilion at the Robert McCausland Community Centre in Gooderham

After 1:30PM, please take garbage to one of the municipal landfill sites.

Fill up on all-you-can-eat Pancakes and Sausages at the Maple Syrup Festival in Wilberforce on Saturday, April 20th

The Maple Syrup Festival held at the Lloyd Watson Centre in Wilberforce will be serving up all you can eat pancakes and sausages with locally made pure Maple Syrup on Saturday, April 20th, Easter Weekend, from 9AM to 2PM. Enjoy the flea market and craft tables as well as a colouring contest and crafts as well as a Turtle Talk with Kelly Wallace at the Wilberforce Library at 11AM where young and old can learn about conservation and how to save at-risk turles.

$3 for children 10 and under.
$6 for adults.

There's something for everyone at the Wilberforce Agricultural Fair!

Gates open at 6PM on Friday, August 9th and at 9AM on Saturday, August 10th. Admission on Friday night is FREE compliments of our sponsors Wilberforce Guardian Pharmacy and Royal Canadian Legion Branch 624. Join us for an authentic country fair. Friday night events include children’s dog show, Lions Club food booth and pony pull. Saturday morning we kick off with a tractor parade at 10AM into the Fair grounds. Come with an appetite as the Lions Club will have their breakfast food booth open. The days events include horse drawn wagon rides, sheep shearing, pedal tractor pull, Gord Kidd and Friends on stage, pony rides, horse draw, petting zoo, frog show, nail driving competition, penny raffle, bouncy castles, and much more.

Places for People is raising awareness about homelessness in our communities by asking the public to spend the night in their car. The event is taking place in the parking lot of the Lloyd Watson Community Centre in Wilberforce from dusk to dawn. 

7PM to 9PM: Campfire gathering of cars, sleepers and supporters.

Plus, enjoy kids' games and activities, snack bar, face painting, exhibit tables and create your own hat at the Mad Hatter table before showing off your creation during the Hat Parade at 7:30PM.

Get your Questions Answered at the Highlands East Visitor Information Centre mid-May through Thanksgiving

The Highland East Vistor Information Centre is located at 2786 Essonville Line in Wilberforce (at the Curling Club) and is open daily, mid-May through Thanksgiving from 10:00AM through 4:00PM (closed Tuesdays) and offers mineral permission to collect forms and directions, geocaching information and GPS rentals, trails, events and other general area information.
