Public Input Needed on Highlands East Short Term Rental (STR) Public Engagement Questionnaire
Give us your input on the questions contained the draft Short-term Rental Questionairre. This draft is not to be completed and submitted, but rather you are asked to give us your feedback on the questions being asked and make suggestions if you feel something has been missed.
“Short-term Rental” or “Short-term Accommodation” typically describes residential dwellings which are rented over a short period of time (e.g. less than 30 days) for monetary gain. It is recognized that the use of a dwelling for a STR can take many forms ranging from a resident of the property who, from time to time, rent out the dwelling while on holiday themselves, to owners of property who continually rent the property out as an investment income.
While traditional ‘Bed and Breakfast’ establishments are recognized through the Comprehensive Zoning Bylaw 2005-29, these establishments are characterized by the caretaker being on-site, and limited to 3 guest rooms.
Short-term rental (STR) accommodations have become prevalent in many Ontario municipalities, including Highlands East. Highlands East recognizes that short-term rentals provide valuable contributions to our economy.
Council is engaging with the public to obtain input and provide information regarding STR accommodations in order to determine if some form of regulation should be considered.
A Draft Questionnaire (available for download below) has been created with questions that Council would like included however, Council is further seeking input from all residents on any additional questions you feel should be included. Input will be received up to 4:30 pm on April 30th, 2019. Please send to:

Council will receive all input when considering the final questionnaire. In a variety of methods, the final questionnaire will be presented to the public late spring, early summer. Thank you for your contribution.
