G8 Updates for Haliburton County
With the G8 Summit underway, the County of Haliburton has activated their Public Information Message Board to provide the public pertinent information regarding emergencies, road closures, delays, etc. This week the Message Board will provide you with current G8 related public information that may affect Haliburton County.

Fire Chief Wingrove would like to remind everyone that daytime burning is not allowed. No permits for daytime burning will be issued.
Nighttime campfires are allowed. However, please be mindful of wind conditions and keep your fire under control. If control of your campfire is lost and the Fire Department has to extinguish the fire you will be issued a fine.

O.P.P. Community Mobilization Forum to be held March 30, 2010
The Haliburton Highlands Detachment, along with the Municipality of Highlands East will be hosting a Community Mobilization Forum on Tuesday March 30, 2010 at 7:00pm. The forum will take place at the Lloyd Watson Centre in Wilberforce.
The forum will focus on current Drug and Break and Enter trends in the eastern portion of Haliburton County. Members of the public are invited to attend this free forum. Officers from the Organized Crime Enforcement Bureau-Drug Enforcement Section, the O.P.P. Rural Agricultural Crime Team (R.A.C.T.) and Crime Stoppers will be presenting at the forum.
This is a great opportunity for members of the public to learn about local Drug and Break and Enter trends, learn how they affect you and your family and what you can do to assist the police in keeping your community safer.

Emergency Response Plan
The Municipality of Highlands East Emergency Management Committee developed this Emergency Response Plan. Every official, municipal department and agency must be prepared to carry out assigned responsibilities in an emergency. The response plan has been prepared to provide key officials, agencies and departments of the Municipality of Highlands East with important emergency response information related to:
- Arrangements, services and equipment; and
- Roles and responsibilities during an emergency.
In addition, it is important that residents, businesses and interested visitors be aware of its provisions. Copies of the Municipality of Highlands East Emergency Response Plan may be viewed at the main Municipal Office and Sub Offices and can be downloaded below.
