Reeve's Holiday Message and Holiday Hours
Reeve Dave Burton, on behalf of Council and staff, would like to take this opportunity to wish each and everyone a happy, healthy holiday. May we take the time to reflect on our blessings and to help others who are less fortunate.
The Cardiff Municipal Office, the main Municipal Office in Wilberforce and the Building Department in Gooderham will be CLOSED from 4:30 pm on Friday, December 23 through Tuesday, January 3rd at 9:00 am.
The Keith Tallman Memorial Arena in Wilberforce and Landfill Sites for the Municipality of Highlands East will be CLOSED on the following dates:
- Sunday, December 25, 2011
- Monday, December 26, 2011
- Sunday, January 1, 2012

Waste Management 'Cottage Kits' For Seasonal Residents Now Available
In order to simplify the management of garbage and recycling for seasonal residents and visitors to Highlands East, we have created the Cottage Kit.
Included in the the Cottage Kit is everything you'll need to dispose of your garbage safely and in accordance with Municipal By-Laws:
- A map showing the location of each of Highlands East's landfill sites, the hours of operation for each and a list of disposal fees.
- A Landfill Pass that will allow you a one-time admission to one of our landfill sites.
- One clear bag (for garbage).
- Two clear, blue recycling bags (for containers) and one, sturdy paper bag (for fibres).
- Recycling & Disposal Information and Safelty Guidelines
Kits are available for $3 each or 10 for $25 and can be purchased at any of Highlands East's Municipal Offices in Wilberforce, Cardiff or Gooderham.

10-Digit Dialing Starts January 15, 2011
This is a reminder to all residents of Highlands East that effective January 15, 2011 all calls made in the 705 area code will require 10-digits to be dialed - the area code followed by the phone number.
The 9-1-1 emergency number remains the same.

Creative Communities Prosperity Fund (CCPF)
This fund provides Ontario municipalities with financial assistance for cultural planning projects. It also provides funding to help not-for-profit organizations carry out specific capacity-building initiatives that enhance the cultural planning process.
Celebrate Ontario 2011
Celebrate Ontario is an annual program that helps new and existing Ontario festivals and events enhance their programs and activities.
Aviva Community Fund
The Aviva Community Fund gives you the chance to share your idea to create lasting change in your community. The most popular ideas, as chosen by Canadians will have a chance to share the $1,000,000 Aviva Community Fund.
Ontario Trillium Foundation
The Ontario Trillium Foundation seeks to build healthy and vibrant communities throughout Ontario by strengthening the capacity of the voluntary sector through investments in community-based initiatives.

Highlands East offers a number of facilities which can be rented for group events including but not limited to the following:
- Conferences or Meetings
- Recreational Activities such as Yoga, Tai Chi and Dance
- Weddings, Receptions, Family Reunions and Funeral Services
- Fund Raisers, Flea Markets or Theatre Productions
Lloyd Watson Centre
Located in downtown Wilberforce, adjacent to the park and fair grounds at 2249 Loop Road. Call 705-448-2981 for bookings.
Available for rent is the kitchen, lounge, and/or main hall (including the stage).

Seats 225, Serves 150, LCBO Licensed for 442 people.
Stage size 16' x 25' (400 square feet).
Lounge area with fireplace and seating capacity for 50 people.

$160 plus HST ($100 deposit includes $50.00 non-refundable cancellation fee)

Highland Grove Community Centre

Seats 50, LCBO Licensed (Pending) for 62 people.
170 square foot stage area.
130 square foot kitchen.
Robert McCausland Memorial Community Centre
Located at 1043 Community Centre Road. Call 705-448-2410 for bookings.
Main Hall has 1620 square feet of floor space, seats 200, LCBO Licensed for 204.
Banquet Room has 792 square feet of floor space, seats and LCBO Licensed for 75.
460 square foot kitchen, 132 square foot bar.
Weddings, Private Functions, Etc. (Main Hall, Banquet Hall and Kitchen)
$110 plus HST ($100 deposit includes $50 non-refundable cancellation fee)

Keith Tallman Memorial Arena
Located in downtown Wilberforce at 2256 Loop Road.

Maximum 1125 person capacity.

- Minor League Sports (Includes Figure Skating) $60/hr
- Non-Prime Time Rate (Monday – Friday 7am - 5pm) $60/hr
- Prime-time Rate (Monday – Sunday after 5pm) $95/hr

Wilberforce Curling Club
Ice season runs from November to March. Space is available for other events from May to September.
