Greens Mountain Recreational Master Plan Stakeholder Invitation

Posted to Administrative, Services on Mar 10, 2014

Greens Mountain is a historical Crown Land site located to the south of the Hamlet of Gooderham, Ontario. It has become a popular area for Off Highway Vehicle (OHV) enthusiasts which has created increased pressure on the landscape and natural resources. The existing trails are not sustainable or suitable for tourism due to a high degree of difficulty.

David A Clark Consulting Inc. is preparing a Recreational Master Plan (RMP) for the area of Crown Land known as Greens Mountain, for the Municipality of Highlands East.

The focus of this planning process is to:

  1. protect and preserve the natural resources through managed recreation best practices
  2. attract more tourists to the area for economic impact and job creation
  3. create and manage the desired recreation experiences of the visitors

The RMP will be a guiding document for the Municipality in the development of land use agreements with the Ministry of Natural Resources and stakeholder groups for sustainable trails & recreation facilities as well as the management and maintenance of the area over a five to ten year planning horizon.

The RMP will review existing recreational uses and facilities in the area; outline relevant emergent trends in recreational usages of comparable sites; identify optimal uses and locations within the target area for those uses; identify ecological constraints; identify social constraints; and set out a development and governance model which will allow the Municipality to implement the development of those uses on the site.

Stakeholder Consultations and public meetings will take place during March and April 2014.

Organized groups and interested individuals can email or click here to be added to the list of stakeholders or call 705-455-2980.

Some helpful tips and info from the Bancroft OPP Detachment

Posted to Administrative, Fire Rescue, Services on Mar 30, 2012

The Municipality of Highlands East is a member of BACPAC (The Bancroft & Area Community Policing Advisory Committee) and in cooperation with the Bancroft OPP Detachment and other community partners, continue to focus on providing only the highest quality of policing services. Meeting this task provides residents a high quality of living, feeling safe and secure. This need can be very financially taxing on each community as it is directly related to the need for police presence/action.

In order to work towards reducing this financial pressure, all efforts must go towards being as efficient and responsible as possible, which includes participation from the community itself.

The attached brochure has been developed to educate the public and outline some valuable tools/tips and common sense that can help reduce the need for police presence.
