Deadline to pass by-law authorizing an alternative voting method.
Deadline for establishing procedures and forms for alternative voting method.
Deadline to provide candidates with a copy of procedures and forms established.

Earliest date to receive Preliminary List of Electors.

Revision of Preliminary List of Electors begins.

2010 Municipal Election: What you need to know about Vote-by-Mail
The Municipality of Highlands East will again use the alternative voting system “Vote-by-Mail" for the 2010 municipal election. This alternative voting method was successfully used in the 2000, 2003 and 2006 municipal elections and was found to be very efficient and yielded a high voter turnout.
Vote-by-Mail eliminates polling stations, advance polls and proxy voting. It transforms every mailbox into a ballot box. Voting is as easy as mailing a letter. Vote-by-Mail kits will be provided to every person who qualifies to be an elector.
How To Cast Your Vote
In addition to using Canada Post Mail, electors may drop off their Return Voting Envelope at the following locations during their regular office hours, Mondays through Fridays as follows:

1032 Gooderham St. between 9:00am and 5:00pmWilberforce Municipal Office

Important Dates
If you are an eligible voter you will receive your Vote-by-Mail kit the week of September 27, 2010 and the deadline for your Vote-by-Mail kit to be returned is October 16, 2010.

2010 Municipal Election: Nomination for Office
Nominations for offices as set out below may be made by completing and filing, in the office of the Clerk of the Municipality of Highlands East, nominations on the prescribed form and accompanied by the prescribed filing fee of $200.00 for Head of Council and $100.00 for all other offices. The filing fee is payable by cash, certified cheque or money order.
Council
Nominations for the Municipality of Highlands East, as follows, may be filed in the Office of the Clerk of the Municipality of Highlands East, 2249 Loop Road, Wilberforce, Ontario.
Reeve - One (1) to be elected by General Vote
Councillors - One (1) to be elected from each of the four (4) Wards
English Language Public Shcool Board
Nominations for the Trillium Lakelands District School Board - One (1) trustee to be elected for the Council of Haliburton may be filed in the Office of the Clerk of the Township of Minden Hills, 7 Milne Street, Minden, Ontario.
French Language Public School Board
Nominations for le Conseil scolaire de district Centre-Sud Quest - One (1) trustee to be elected for Sector 1 - Haliburton, Northumberland, Peterborough, Kawartha Lakes and Durham may be filed in the office of the Clerk of the City of Oshawa, 50 Centre Street South, Oshawa, Ontario or with a delegated Clerk.
