2010 Municipal Election: What you need to know about Vote-by-Mail

Posted to Elections on Feb 24, 2010

The Municipality of Highlands East will again use the alternative voting system “Vote-by-Mail" for the 2010 municipal election. This alternative voting method was successfully used in the 2000, 2003 and 2006 municipal elections and was found to be very efficient and yielded a high voter turnout.

Vote-by-Mail eliminates polling stations, advance polls and proxy voting. It transforms every mailbox into a ballot box. Voting is as easy as mailing a letter. Vote-by-Mail kits will be provided to every person who qualifies to be an elector.

How To Cast Your Vote
In addition to using Canada Post Mail, electors may drop off their Return Voting Envelope at the following locations during their regular office hours, Mondays through Fridays as follows:

Cardiff Sub-Office
2778 Monck Road between 9:00am and 3:30pm

Gooderham Post Office
1032 Gooderham St. between 9:00am and 5:00pm

Wilberforce Municipal Office
2249 Loop Road between 9:00am and 4:30pm

After Hours Drop Off Locations
You may also drop off your Return Voting Envelope after regular business hours at the following locations:

Gooderham Post Office
The drop off box is the large red mailbox located at the front of the building.

Wilberforce Municipal Office
The drop off box is located at the front of the building next to the main entrance.

Important Dates
If you are an eligible voter you will receive your Vote-by-Mail kit the week of September 27, 2010 and the deadline for your Vote-by-Mail kit to be returned is October 16, 2010.
