5468 Loop Road, Highland Grove

N45° 04.183' W078° 05.245'
This General Store has served the town and surrounding area since 1895, that is 115 years of history and heritage resting in the beautiful little town of Highland Grove. Situated next to the I.B.& O. railroad tracks, the store became the commercial hub of the area, and the earlier towns of Leafield and Deer Lake disappeared. Over the years the store has changed hands a number of times and has evolved accordingly, but its character remains. The original counter and built-in shelves are still in use, although they no longer hold farm implements and bolts of cloth.
Owners Mark and Michele Smith have groceries and movie rentals, ice, treats for the kids and hand-dipped Kawartha Dairy ice cream cones. The main attraction though, is their large selection of antiques and collectibles. Vintage toys and games, books, music, china and furniture, the Highland Grove General Store has it all! Stop by in the summer and visit their barn, filled with more treasures, as well.
White's General Store
26057 HWY 28, Cardiff
613-339-2350
This General Store features a diverse and ever-changing inventory of Antiques and Vintage, Retro or Contemporary items.
According to Oscar White, who has owned and operated this general store since 1988, this building was built in the mid-1940s, having found newspapers dating back to 1948. As far as Mr. White knows, this building has always been a general store. In the beginning there were two stores side by side. Later on one building was torn down and the other was given an addition, thus becoming the general store we have today.
With the camp grounds of Silent Lake close by, this General Store caters to outdoor enthusiasts who are exploring our wilderness. There are basic groceries, ice, first aid items and personal hygiene products.
If you find yourself driving along Highway 28 towards Bancroft, you may be relieved to come across White’s gas station. Don’t hesitate to have a wander through the General Store and have a look at the wide variety of antique toys, tools, furniture and more. You might just be surprised what you may find.
