About
The Municipality of Highlands East sits on the eastern side of Haliburton County and was incorporated as of January 1, 2001.
Highlands East is comprised of the former Townships of Bicroft, Cardiff, Glamorgan and Monmouth. It has a permanent population of approximately 2,700 and a seasonal population of roughly 13,000 with a total of 4,300 households.
Highlands East is a clean, friendly Municipality comprised of a vast rural area, several settlements and many shoreline communities. We are proud of our culture and heritage in Haliburton County and also enjoy a good quality of life because of the clean air as well as the lakes, rivers, forests and hills that define the natural character and identity of Highlands East.
The economy of the area has traditionally been based on forestry, mining and tourism. We encourage home based businesses and the development of new recreation and service sector uses. Highlands East is a four season playground. Come and explore our Municipality and see for yourself.
